I have some problems with DVD written on the JVC DR-MH20S burner (it is an
external dvd burner not connected to a computer). I have posted the following
message on the mplayer mailing list but after some mails, they have written
that I should post the problem on the libdvdcss mailing list. The followings
are the contents of some mails I posted to the mplayer mailing list.

1 : description of the problem :

I have backed up a video tape on DVD using the JVC DR-MH20S burner.
The DVD-R is finalized and I can read the different VOB files on it
individually, but if I use mplayer (there is the same problem with xine) to
play the DVD as a normal video DVD, here is the message I get :

Joue dvd://

English translation of the message is :

I don't think it is a problem of mplayer (or xine) but a problem of the dvd
burner which does not produce correct video DVD, but it is really annoying.

Here is the structure of the disc :

VIDEO_TS
|_ VIDEO_TS.BUP
|_ VIDEO_TS.IFO
|_ VIDEO_TS.VOB
|_ VTS_01_0.BUP
|_ VTS_01_0.IFO
|_ VTS_01_1.VOB
|_ VTS_01_2.VOB
|_ VTS_01_3.VOB
|_ VTS_01_4.VOB

The content of VIDEO_TS.BUP and VIDEO_TS.IFO is :
DVDVIDEO-VMG

The size of VIDEO_TS.BUP and VIDEO_TS.IFO is 12ko

The content of VTS_01_0.BUP and VTS_01_0.IFO is :
DVDVIDEO-VTS

The size of VTS_01_0.BUP and VTS_01_0.IFO is 78ko

2 : Aftern some advices, here is an another post describing the result of some
commands.
Try lsdvd -x, or tcprobe -i /dev/dvd -d 35, or some other -d values.
Here is the result of tcprobe :

bash-2.05b$ tcprobe -i /dev/dvd -d 35

You are just trying to confirm that the JVC isn't creating proper DVD's,
right?
Yes, It seems that this JVC (I don't know for others) is not creating standard
DVD. I have tried two times. The first time, I had interruped the recording
and I recorded the film with a lower quality later. So I had 2 films on the
dvd. I have the same problem with this disc. For me, it was because of the
interrupted recorded film, so I created a new dvd with only 1 film on it and
finalized it, but the problem is still the same. I used 2 different brands
for the media : Sony DVD-R and EMTEC DVD-R.

3 : The last post I received from the mplayer mailing list :

I would post this to the libdvdcss list.
http://developers.videolan.org/libdvdcss/

It is possible that the disk is in spec, but libdvdcss doesn't currently
support it.

If anyone know how to solve this ?

Regards,

Thierry
